Keenor

Keenor - 26 points of automatic dipping (teat sanitiser) and flushing (teat cup sanitiser) ADF milking system

Were awarded £9,336 (40% of total project costs of £23,340), towards the Purchase and installation of 26 points of automatic dipping (teat sanitiser) and flushing (teat cup sanitiser) ADF milking system in the dairy parlour, including dosing system, 26 milking cluster unit, central processor, pump cabinet and control boxes.  This cluster flush installation will allow the applicant to reduce labour requirements during milking operations and reduce the risk of pathogens transfer from animal to animal.

Lower Nymet Farm of 70 acres was purchased in 2004 by Robert and Deborah Keenor.  Robert has worked in farming since leaving education. They purchased a further 50 acres in 2005 and have subsequently erected cubicles for 160 cows and a 13:13 herring bone milking parlour. They have invested significantly in the farm spending in excess of £300,000. The main enterprise is dairy farming, but they do have a small breeding ewe flock of 25.

The applicant sought support to invest in a new automatic teat spray and cup sanitiser. This allowed them to reduce the manual labour requirement during milking operations, increase productivity, and improve the health of the animals by reducing the risk of transferring pathogens.
